The Gospel and Willie Revillame

The fight over the Janjan Willie issue is a fight for change. Not a fight to oust Willie ( well personally for me, since I don’t know him) but a fight to change the current culture and value we have as a nation.

I think both sides would say their piece and nobody will admit defeat – it is a given so I hope the issue is not to point fingers. This issue would be forgotten after a few months time for sure.

The change I want

-is not to boycott sponsors,

– is not to boycott the tv station.

– is not to make it a debate between the rich and the poor.

Those won’t bring lasting change. We have seen this happen over and over again. I reminded of a story in the Bible where Jesus healed a man possessed by demons.

Mark 5:3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain.

Mark 5:4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but hetore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.

“No one could bind him anymore.”

The word “anymore” is the key to this statement. It implies that there was a time when he could be bound by chains. We as a nation have been trying to solve the nation’s problem using external solutions when the problem is an internal one.We are trying to solve the problems politically but it is not a political problem or a sociological problem.

IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SPIRITUAL PROBLEM

That is why when the demon possessed man saw Jesus, He knew the solution to the problem just arrived.

Mark 5:6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him.

The turning point of the man was when He saw Jesus, ran to Jesus and worshiped Him.

We can solve this one problem of child exploitation but it will never end till the people responsible would have a change of heart.

We can solve the problem of the immorality of the show but there will be another show to come out that might even be worst.

Unless we attack the problem of our nation spiritually – the problem remains. Why do I say this? Because we can never change a person’s heart. Only God can. Same goes with our nation. Only God can change this nation.

The change we ultimately want is not Willie’s head but our hearts.

2 Chronicles 7:14

14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
