Mark 1
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son;[d] with you I am well pleased.”
When Jesus was introduced by God in the earth he wasn’t introduced as the MAIN EVENT though He was the MAIN EVENT. He wasn’t introduced as the SAVIOR, though He is the SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.
Interestingly, he was introduced as MY BELOVED SON, with you I am well pleased.
How fitting to describe what Christianity is all about. It is about a relationship with Christ and not a job description that I need to fulfill.
Today we got it messed up. As Christians we tend to do thing for God so that He will be pleased. Christians need to understand that there is nothing we can do to please God. When the exchange at the cross happened, and our sins were forgiven, it was not because of our good works but of Christ’s work at the cross.
We are called beloved by God because He first loved us not because of our love for Him. How liberating it is that the foundation of my relationship with God is not based on what I do for Him but on what He did for me.
