Knowing your position is very important. Also knowing your identity is important. Who you are determines how you act. We came from the family of SY. What if somebody approaches me one day and tells me that my real dad is HENRY SY, the owner of the largest malls and real estates in the country. I could already imagine doing my groceries in SM, buying stuff in SM, and having an audience with my dad and enjoy the perks of being a son of Henry Sy.
In reality, my heavenly Father is bigger than Henry Sy. He is the creator of Henry Sy. He gave Henry Sy the ability to produce wealth ( Deut 8:18). This is the reason Paul was writing to the church in Ephesus. He was reminding them of who they are in Christ and the riches they have in Christ.But I don’t have to be Henry Sy’s son to be rich and act rich because as I study the book of Ephesians I have something that Henry Sy does not know and this is what I want to share to you
Ephesians 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Not only should we limit God with material blessings. What is more important is the spiritual blessing we have in Christ.
Philippians 4:19 (New International Version) 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
To understand and appreciate the book of Ephesians, we need to understand that a person operates in 2 spheres: The Natural and the Spiritual. We live in mortal bodies but at the same time we are seated with Christ in the heavenlies enjoying every spiritual blessing available in Christ. Our life here on earth is temporary and to try to gain worldly wealth is to misuse our time here on earth.
Rather we use our worldly wealth as a leverage for eternity. I want to be blessed because I want to be a blessing. There is more to life than material wealth, that is why Paul prays that we experience his spiritual blessings. How many rich people do you know who live miserable lives? A lot live this way because they only want the natural blessing but not the spiritual blessing.
