Where do we base our identity? Do I get it from my success, my achievements, my fame, my trophies, my job?
A lot of people who have achieved some sort of human “success” finds out that the promises of this world is really not that fulfilling. Success can bring you happiness but it will not guarantee it. Achievements will give you recognition till your next failure. Your job can give you security until the next world economic crisis.
I am not trying to be negative. What I am trying to say is that don’t build your life and identity around those things.
In Psalm 73:25-26, King David, who was considered a success in his time has this to say:
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength[a] of my heart and my portion forever.
Who are we is based on our relationship with God. My fulfilment and my satisfaction rests in Christ alone. All my worldly achievements and my passions may fail but I know where my source of strength, security, love and portion is – in God.
