Ask anybody out there about leadership and they give you all sorts of answer.
John Maxwell would say : Leadership is Influence.
Warren Bennis would say: Leadership is reinventing yourself
Andy Stanley would say: Leadership is stewardship
but what does the Bible say about leadership?
the word gift of leadership was mentioned only once in the bible when God gave Josuha son of Nun the gift to lead. Most of the word leadership mentioned in the Bible did not pertain to any notion of how leadership is defined today.
There is one thing I know for sure though about the Bible and leadership – Jesus was portrayed as one and his leadership style is not how we would define leadership. For Jesus it was about SERVANT LEADERSHIP
Yes, not positional, not influence, not reinventing. Those are only results of SERVANT leadership.
Phil. 2:5 ¶ In your relationships with one another, have the same attitude of mind Christ Jesus had:
Phil. 2:6 ¶ Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
Phil. 2:7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very naturec of a servant, being made in human likeness.
Phil. 2:8 ¶ And being found in appearance as a human being, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross! (HUMILITY AND SERVANTHOOD)
Phil. 2:9 ¶ Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, (positional)
Phil. 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (influential)
Phil. 2:11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
