Why do some small group ministry work while others don’t. You can have two churches go through with the same small group curriculum and have different results. How is this possible?
When you think of small groups, do you think from the inside out or from the outside in? Conventional wisdom says that we must first take care of those on the inside first but in reality small groups that are inward focus ( that means they focus on serving their own members) rather than reaching out to others ( which is the great commission mentioned in Matthew 28:18-20) quickly becomes stagnant. – Nelson Searcy, italics emphasis mine.
When Jesus commanded the disciples to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, he was not telling them to be inward focus in their discipleship. He was telling them to look outside. The context was that there were a few disciples and for this message to spread – you have to be outward focused.
