2Cor. 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
At the cross, the great EXCHANGE happened. The sinner saved because we were made righteous, while the Righteous One (Jesus), took all of our sins to himself.
Jesus became sin, and we became righteous. Do we fully understand what this means?
Jesus became sin for us. Jesus became the ugliest, wicked, defiled, evil, corrupt, rebellious and hideous thing in all creation.
At that moment Jesus became a murderer, adulterer, idol worshipper, whore, thief, glutton, addict, pervert, self-righteous because of HIS great love for us. In exchange, we became His righteousness.
He came to pay a debt He didn’t owe because we owed a debt we couldn’t pay. We were made right with God. This is what we celebrate this holy week.
