I remember during my high school days being inspired by this African evangelist Reinhard Bonnke. One of the visions I received from the Lord was that he was going to use me to preach to thousands of people. I had images of standing in front of stadiums preaching the gospel to a generation who needs to hear it.
I knew it was a crazy dream. I came from a small Christian high school in the outskirts of Makati, and I don’t know if people may consider me as somebody who can change the world. It was a crazy yet a possible dream.
I remember cutting out a picture of Reinhard’s African crusade with multitudes of people listening to him preach the gospel and I did what every man would do to pray for this to happen. I posted that picture in my bathroom so that I could see it every day. I am not sure if it is still in the bathroom where my dad now stays but it was a powerful daily reminder for me that God was going to use me and I was going to disciple another evangelist who would also run with the vision of God.
I share this to say that an unpreached gospel is no gospel at all. The early church went out and preached the gospel to the entire known world. We were commissioned by God to make disciples of all nations! This is a big vision that requires a big God and a committed church to run with the vision!
It’s been more than two decades – and I pray that I still get that crazy feeling that I am going to be used by God to preach to millions of people. I don’t know how but I know it can happen. It might be through a person I am discipling who would slay his tens of thousands. It could be a host of young people so passionate that they can’t wait to preach the gospel wherever they go!
When we planted the church in Greenhills, we didn’t set out to plant a church for the people who know Christ. We went there with the intent of preaching the gospel to the city. We were not targeting the tens – we were shooting for the thousands of people in San Juan ( but we did have to start with the tens and the hundreds)
An unpreached gospel – something I don’t want to happen in my lifetime. We have to be committed as pastors and leaders of our church to preach the gospel for it is the power of God to save people from their sin. It is life transforming; it is nation transforming.
Matthew 9:37-38 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Habakkuk 2:14 “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
