Mark 1:9-11
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son;[d] with you I am well pleased.”
In this text, we see some examples of how God showed his heart to Jesus, His beloved Son.
- God is always with us.
When Jesus was baptized, God the father was there to witness his introduction to the world. Jesus saw the heavens open signifying that God was watching.
2. He made His presence felt.
But God did not just open the heaven watching, He descended like a dove to be with Jesus. When Jesus was born in a manger, He was also named Immanuel which means God with us.
3. He defined His relationship with Jesus.
“You are my beloved son.” How we long to hear such words from our dads. I thank God for my dad who showed His love to me by supporting me in my endeavors and always being there when I need Him. Jesus showed us the same kind of love that in spite of our sin, He died for us so that we can be restored with the Father ( Romans 5:8)
4. He communicated how pleased He is with Jesus.
Jesus hasn’t died on the cross yet. In fact, Jesus was just starting his ministry on earth. He had nothing yet to prove but God told Him how pleased He is with His son.
I know how we long to hear from our father how pleased He is. God, in His loving-kindness, died for us and gave us the Holy Spirit so that we can be part of His family and do the Great Commission as his sons and daughters.
In short, I have nothing to prove yet He chose me to be His and do His will. What an amazing privilege to be part of God’s family.
Prayer: Lord thank you for loving me as your son/daughter. Thank you for your heart to love me. It is your love that transforms me. I am forever grateful for the Father heart of God.
