Fight the temptation to build a church that you like. It is not about your preference. You might love loud music but if the people who you are trying to reach hates it – what in the world are you doing having loud worship music playing every Sunday.

Don’t build your own church. Do that when you build your house but not the church. Take the gospel into the context where we have been called and to some degree to let the church take the best shape that it can in order to reach a specific culture.

1Cor. 9:19  ¶     Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.
1Cor. 9:20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law.
1Cor. 9:21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law.
1Cor. 9:22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.
1Cor. 9:23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

I love how Pastor Ed Stetzer phrased it,” The problem with finding a place to live out our preferences is that we are ministering on the basis of the very thing that will change: the culture around us. “
