Here is what every wife desires: ONENESS.
She wants her husband to understand that they are one. Her goal should be his goal the same way his goal is her goal.
It is what you call mutual submission. Most of the time we husbands quote
¶ Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. Ephesians 5:22
¶ Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Colossians 3:18
But we forget to
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5:21
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her Ephesians 5:25
to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, Ephesians 5:26
Let me give you some example:
Husbands would want their wives to manage the house, tend the kids and go to work at the same time. Wife says, “Honey I can’t handle that pressure, I hope you understand.” Typically husband fumes and says “You don’t understand – we need extra income, I need you to help me, just submit.
Wife being submissive says OK but in her heart she is crying out to God, “Lord help me here, help my husband see where I am coming from and for once listen to me.”
Another example: SEX
Husband comes home wanting to be sexually satisfied. He asked his wife to come to bed. Wife says Honey I am so tired the whole day, I run errands, went to work, did some grocery, tutored the kids, I have no more energy.
Husband says “You need to fill my needs, don’t be selfish!” Wife submits and comes to bed. They had sex but wife is unhappy. She feels used and she can’t say anything about it because the husband might use the verse
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. Ephesians 5:22
¶ Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Colossians 3:18
That is why I think there is a need for mutual submission. We men have to do our part. Have we given enough time to really show how much we love and appreciate them. Have we listened to the cries of our wives. Do we really know what is going on in their heart? Are we one with our spouse?
‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? Matthew 19:5
ONENESS – ASK YOUR WIFE ABOUT IT!
