A VIP Session with Wendy Simpson – Lessons for Kingdom-Minded Business Leaders
We were grabbing a meal with friends when we noticed Colin Lee, the leader of the Kingdom Entrepreneur Network, having coffee nearby. That brief encounter turned into an invitation to a gathering that would leave a lasting imprint on how I view faith and business.
The keynote speaker? Wendy Simpson. Here are some of her accomplishments
– Former executive at Alcatel and TNT International.
– Named one of Australia’s Top 100 Women of Influence.
– Telstra Business Woman of the Year.
– An early supporter of Melanie Perkins, long before Canva became a $40B global tech giant.
But beyond her credentials, what stood out most was her clarity of purpose. Wendy lives and leads with an eternal perspective—and invites others to do the same.
Here are just a few takeaways that resonated deeply with me:
- Integrate Faith and Business
There is no sacred/secular divide. Our faith is not meant to be boxed into Sundays. It should shape how we lead, how we serve, and how we make decisions in business. Excellence is an act of worship.
2. Profit with Purpose
Success is not the goal—stewardship is.
When we profit, we are entrusted with resources to serve people, invest in kingdom causes, and advance human flourishing.
3. Play to Your Strengths.
“Do the Clifton StrengthsFinder with yourself and your team. Learn where your real talents lie. Then, put people in roles that suit those strengths.”
4. Know Your Market, Know Your Mission
“Choose your target market, choose your future.”
Wendy’s words reminded me of something we practice in our church: being clear about who God has called us to reach. That clarity helps us focus and say no to distractions—even good ones.
5. Created to Cultivate
When in doubt, grow. From Genesis, God’s design was for us to cultivate, steward, and multiply. That means we don’t default to playing small. We ask big, dream big—but partner with the Spirit to discern our season, pace, and purpose.
6. Stay Coachable
“Curiosity is non-negotiable for entrepreneurs. You must be willing to listen—deeply—to those who have walked the path before you.” And yes, that usually requires both time and financial investment.
This experience reminded me that kingdom business isn’t just about impact—it’s about alignment. When our goals align with God’s purposes, our business becomes more than a source of income. It becomes an instrument of transformation.
Grateful to Martin for the introduction to this powerful network and to Wendy for her wisdom and courage.
Let’s keep building businesses with eternity in mind. Share this to an entrepreneur!
