What Grace Is Not

Romans 11

So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

If by grace then it cannot be based on works. This messes us up because for the longest time we were taught that the way to God is to do good works. We do good to get God to notice us. We do things for God so that God will be pleased.

Imagine all the sins we have committed and the good things we have done for God. How does it measure up? Imagine God’s holiness and our futile attempt to holiness how does it measure up? We fail.

I am blessed because grace is not based on works or else it won’t be grace. Grace when received produces good works but it will never be us doing good works that is why we receive grace.

Grace sets me free from performing and gives me the power to Christ-like living.
