Somebody has to watch your back

watch-your-back

Ephesians 6:14-17 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

As we were discussing Ephesians 6 with our small group last night, an insight was shared that if you look carefully at the armor of God there is no protection for your back. I don’t know if it was directly or indirectly that Paul was showing us that somebody has got to watch our back.

I call it our blind spots. We can’t see our back. We can’t protect our back. Somebody has to protect our back. That is where discipleship and spiritual family comes in. Since you can’t watch your back, you have to enlist people to watch your back.
