MARKS OF A HEALTHY CHURCH #3: THE GOSPEL

Here are some excerpts from the book

“It’s the good news – the best news the world has ever heard. And yet that news far more important than any story about the Rev Dr. Mudge and a patent pig killing machine – is very often bit as scrambled and confused. Too often it becomes a thin veneer spread lightly over our culture’s values, being shaped and formed to the contours of our culture rather than to the truth about our God.”

My comments:

What the Gospel is not:

1. The gospel is not “I’m OK, You’re OK”

Man is not ok. Man is very far from ok. Man is lost, man is in sin and sin brings about a NOT OK life.

2. The full gospel is not just about God’s love.

3. The gospel is not just “Jesus wants to be your friend”

He wants to be our friend but it goes beyond that. He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” Mark 8:27
¶ They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” Mark 8:28
¶ “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” ¶ Peter answered, “You are the Christ.” Mark 8:29
¶ Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him. Mark 8:30
¶ He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. Mark 8:31

4. The gospel is not just living right.

It produces a passion to live right but it is not the essence of the Gospel. It is a by product of the gospel.

Here is the gospel in a nutshell

God created man, Man sinned, God made a way by sending His Son Jesus, You need Jesus, He wants you, Make Him Lord of your life.
