GOD IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM

The aftermath of typhoon Ondoy has brought devastation to the lives of millions of Filipinos. Even the PAGASA report of Typhoon Pepeng has taken our nation to its knees asking God to redirect the upcoming storm coming to Manila.

We have seen so many people whose houses were wiped out by the storm. The STORM was the great equalizer. Ondoy hit both the rich and the poor. EVERYBODY felt his effect.

If there is one thing about life that we would always experience, it is this: STORMS.

And most of the time when storm hits we have QUESTIONS.

Questions that I myself have no answer to. David asked the same question in Psalm 11:3

If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous (GOD) do?

Where is God in the midst of the storm? What is He doing?

I am currently preparing for my message this Sunday and was going through some Scriptures that would hopefully shed light to the questions you might be asking.

There is this familiar story in the Bible when Jesus and his disciples also experienced a stormxin_252090629062737569035

Matt. 8:23  ¶ Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.
Matt. 8:24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.

Yes you read it right. Jesus was sleeping in the storm.

Matt. 8:25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
Matt. 8:26  ¶ He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
Matt. 8:27  ¶ The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

But then his panicked disciple woke him up and said Jesus don’t you care! We are dying here! This is a different storm. A storm we are not used to. Jesus got up and rebuked the disciples and the wind and the winds and waves obey Him.

The moral of the story:

God is in the midst of the storm and we might not like how He is handling it but God is in control.

The flood waters have not yet subsided and a stronger storm is headed our way. In times like these, when logic and reason do not work, prayer does! Speakers like me can encourage people to stay strong in the midst of the storm. Scientists can provide helpful info on how to act during a storm but only Jesus can still the storm. – Francis Kong

Noah had a flood crisis but God was in control

Moses had a crisis but God was in control and opened the Red Sea.

David had a Goliath crisis but God was in control.

Rom. 8:18  ¶     I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Pilipinas, let us hold on to our faith. God is in control. Let us pray for a miracle. God is in the midst of the STORM.
