GO PUT YOUR STRENGTHS TO WORK

Watching Marcus Buckingham’s talk on “Go Put Your Strengths to Work” and really felt challenged to focus on the thing that only I can do to help the team.

He emphasizes that we must BUILD ON YOUR STRENGTH AND MANAGE YOUR WEAKNESS.
More people think that fixing your weakness would make them successful compared to building on your strengths.

I asked my wife about my leadership strength yesterday and the leadership strengths of our team. I was very happy with how she explained on how we as a team compliment each others’ strength. We all have weaknesses and that is a given and we try to manage it but not focus on it.shaq

Let me share mine. My weakness is pastoral care. I feel like I could excel more in preaching and teaching. During the first year my leadership antenna is looking for someone to fill that gap in our team. Then Pastor Tito came and fill the gap.

Bill Hybels humbly acknowledged that his first gifting was leadership and preaching/teaching was his 3rd gift – so what did Bill Hybels do? Enlist teaching pastors to share the load.

Shaq when he was drafted by the Lakers was told to wok on his inside game. Shaq wanted to work on his free throws instead but the coaching staff of LA said they wanted Shaq to excel in his strengths. Shaq said I am already the best in the inside but the coaching staff said “We will make you the best ever.”

LA won the championship, Shaq won the scoring title and the rest is history.
