Fasting Day 1: Direction and not Intentions

Everybody has good intentions. Nobody sets out with a bad intention in mind. We have new goals, new dreams to start the new year but what set aparts people from having a great year is not their intentions. It is the direction that we choose to walk towards that determines our destination.

Andy Stanley said it perfectly, “The path we choose determines our destination.”

You can have all the good intentions but it wont get you to where you want to go. The decisions, the path and the direction you choose would determine it.

As we begin our 7 days of fasting – let us be reminded that God doesn’t look at our intentions – He looks at the direction that we choose to walk on. This verse on fasting hits the bullseye

Is. 58:3      ‘We have fasted before you!’ they say. “Why aren’t you impressed? We have been very hard on ourselves, and you don’t even notice it!’ “I will tell you why!” I respond. “It’s because you are fasting to please yourselves. Even while you fast, you keep oppressing your workers.
Is. 58:4      What good is fasting when you keep on fighting and quarreling? This kind of fasting will never get you anywhere with me.

Is. 58:6  ¶      “No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you.  Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people.
Is. 58:7      Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.
Is. 58:8  ¶      “Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the LORD will protect you from behind.

“Direction, not your intention determines your destination.” – Andy Stanley
