Exegete the Community

Rick Warren before planting a church exegete his community. Here was his finding

a.    church is boring esp the sermons. They don’t relate to my life.
b.    Church members are unfriendly to visitors.
c.    The church is more interested with my money than it is in me.
d.    We worry about the quality of our church’s childcare

When we planted the church in Greenhills we tried exegeting the community doing a demographic and psychographic study of  San Juan. What we saw helped us in determining how we need to do church in the city.

We had a talk with a pastor who had a doomsday outlook about the city. He gave some reasons why the church in San Juan is not growing. He labeled the people as transient people – they don’t last in San Juan. As he was sharing his reason why the church is not growing, God just reminded me to look with eyes of faith.  SEE differently.

San Juan is a missionary sending church. Small but influential. One of the richest city in Metro Manila. The Haven for Entrepreneurs. Home to the top 3 high schools in the Philippines. Home of the Presidents.

Exegete the community where Christ has called you.
